"The backbone of the spirits world. American Oak provides the essential structure and sweetness found in most aged spirits."
American Oak
Provides core aromas of vanilla, coconut, and caramel through the breakdown of wood lignins during maturation.
Bourbon Cask
First-fill or refill barrels previously used for Bourbon; they deliver a creamy mouthfeel and classic notes of butterscotch and honey.
European Oak
Tighter grained than American oak, often associated with traditional Sherry aging. Adds tannin and deep spice.
Virgin Oak
New, unused wood that releases intense, sometimes aggressive spiciness and raw woody notes very quickly.
Mizunara
Rare Japanese oak known for unique, temple-like aromas of sandalwood, incense, and subtle coconut.
"Casks that previously held wine add layers of rich fruit, dark colors, and varying levels of sweetness."
Oloroso
The most common sherry cask influence: expect deep, savory notes of walnut, dark chocolate, and heavy dried fruits.
Pedro Ximénez (PX)
Sticky and syrupy; brings an intense, dessert-like sweetness of raisins, dates, and dark molasses.
Fino / Manzanilla
Light and dry sherries; they add a distinct saline, yeasty, and almond-like nuance to the spirit.
Port Cask
Often Ruby or Tawny port. Adds a rich, red-fruit character and a slight vinous grip.
Red Wine / Bordeaux
Provides a robust structure with notes of red berries, tannins, and a slight acidity.
"Modern innovations where spirits are 'finished' for a short period in unconventional vessels."
Rum Cask
Adds a tropical 'funk' with notes of demerara sugar, overripe banana, and molasses.
Stout Cask
Brings a creamy texture with bitter hints of roasted coffee, cocoa, and malt.
Cognac
